Longarm Boot Camp Basics – May 4th morning and afternoon sessions:
Does longarm quilting interest you and you’d like to learn more about it? Or do you just need a review of longarm basics? This class takes the mystery out of longarm quilting by acquainting you with the basic terms, machine freatures, how to load a quilt, and what you need to know about thread, needles and tension. Handi-Quilter longarm systems are user-friendly, come in various sizes for every budget, and are designed by a quilter, for quilters –just like you!
Topics Include:
1) Definition of longarm quilting terms
2) Basic machine features
3) Bobbins, tension, needles and thread
4) Loading quilts
5) Groovy boards and pantographs
RULER MANIA – MAY 5th – Morning
If you love precision and consistency in your quilting designs, you will love using design rulers and templates. These handy tools assist in placing designs accurately and stitching them out precisely. Learn to handle rulers and templates safely with the ruler base and how to achieve accuracy with the markings. The wide variety of Handi-Quilter rulers will inspire you to new design heights.
Topics Include:
1) Handling rulers safely
2) Accomplishing precision and accuracy
3) Straight line quilting and stitch in the ditch
4) Right angles and cross hatching
5) Overview of all shapes of Handi-Quilter rulers
CREATIVE TEXTURES AND FILLS – May 5th – Afternoon
Meandering is the easiest and most common filler for background space – but there are limitless creative design elements to use instead. Come expand your design portfolio by learning the stitch path of a wide variety of creative filler designs. Learn which designs lend themselves best to micro-quilting and how to use micro-handles for best results.
Topics Include:
1) Selecting appropriate fills to compliment design style
2) Creating special effects with different fillers
3) Scaling the fill design size appropriately
4) Evenly placing and spacing fills
5) Effectively using HQ Micro Handles
ALL ABOUT FEATHERS – Saturday, May 5th – Morning
Feather designs always add a touch of class to any quilt evoking a positive response from any viewer. Learn to draw and stitch these beautiful elements in many different styles, from traditional to contemporary. Then learn how to fit them in specific geometric spaces, how to turn corners, make feather wreaths and how to echo and add fills. It’s easier than you think.
Topics Include:
1) How to draw fluid feathers
2) Adding echo and fills
3) Fitting feathers within a geometric space
4) Turning corners with feathers
YOU CAN DO THAT WITH A HANDI-QUILTER??!!- Saturday, May 5th - Afternoon
A longarm isn’t just for quilting tops! Come see how techniques usually done with a sewing machine can be accomplished with a longarm machine. You’ll leave with brilliant shortcuts and ideas for quick and easy projects and a whole new perspective on what’s possible with a longarm!
Topics Include:
1) “Slap-li-que”
2) Couching and embellishment
3) Creating chenille
4) Strip piecing quilting as you go
5) Applying binding with the longarm
